What Asif sent, and what the archive did with it
A file-by-file accounting of one contributor's material: what arrived, what is on the site, and what is not.
Asifur Rahman has sent this archive three deliveries of Telegram material. This page accounts for every file in them. It is generated from the archive's own catalogue, so the numbers are what the system actually holds today, not a summary written by hand.
Nothing that was sent has been deleted. All 4,638 files are on disk exactly as they arrived, and every one has a recorded reason for how it is being used.
1. What we received
4,638 files in total — 2,692 photographs and 1,946 videos, 25.6 GB — in three deliveries:
| Delivery | What it was | Files | Photographs | Videos | Size |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| First delivery | The July–August Archive group, forwarded from 12 Telegram channels | 3,237 | 1,985 | 1,252 | 18.2 GB |
| Second delivery | A fresh export of the same group, plus the messages of a second channel | 725 | 490 | 235 | 2.0 GB |
| Third delivery | The media folder for that second channel, BJTY Archive, which had been missing | 676 | 217 | 459 | 5.5 GB |
| Total | 4,638 | 2,692 | 1,946 | 25.6 GB | |
Telegram writes its own filenames when an export runs, so the same photograph exported twice comes out under two unrelated names. The archive therefore matches on the contents of a file, never its name. That is why a file can appear here under a name nobody recognises.
2. How the site uses it
2,680 of these files are live on the site now, spread across 33 days from 2024-07-11 to 2024-08-30. Each one has its own page, with its own address that can be quoted or linked. Each is credited to the channel it came from, and dated to the day it records.
The third delivery does something no other collection in this archive can: it names 147 individual people as the person who filmed or photographed the moment, and gives a place for 94 of the files. Everywhere else the archive can only credit a channel or a picture agency. Those names are published as the credit.
Their Facebook profile links were supplied too, and are kept in the catalogue, but they are not put on the public pages. Naming the person who filmed something is credit; publishing a live link to their profile next to footage of a killing is a different thing, and not one the archive will do on their behalf.
Channel by channel
“Sent” is everything received from that channel. “Live” is on the site now. “Already had” means the archive held the same picture before, or received it twice. “Waiting” means a person still has to decide.

3. What is not live, and why
1,958 files are not on the site. There are two reasons, and neither of them is that the file was rejected or thrown away.
1,257 are pictures the archive already had
Of these, 848 are byte-for-byte identical to a file the archive already held — the same picture sent twice, usually because a channel was exported more than once. The rest are the same picture in a different size or quality.
Where several copies of one picture exist, the archive publishes the best of them and records the others as copies of it. The file is still held and still counted; the archive simply shows each photograph once. If a copy sent later is better than the one already published, the later one wins and takes its place.
701 are waiting for a person to decide
- 447 — These carry a date, but one worked out from a neighbouring post rather than stated outright, and there is no caption to confirm what they show. A person needs to confirm they belong to the uprising before they go up.
- 253 — The channel that carried these re-posts old material, so the date it published them is a year or more after the events they show. Nothing in the files says when they were actually filmed, and the archive files everything by day. These are waiting for someone who knows the material to say when it happened.
- 1 — Something in the text suggests these are advertising or unrelated material rather than a record of the events.
Waiting is not rejection. These move onto the site as they are checked, and the check is a person looking at them, not a machine.
None of these files has been rejected as outside what the archive covers.
4. How to check any single file
Rather than take this page on trust, use Where did my file go? Drop in the files you sent and it reports, one by one, whether the archive has each and what became of it — with a link to its page where there is one.
Nothing is uploaded. Your browser reads each file and sends only a fingerprint of its contents, so a folder of video can be checked in moments without sending it again.
You can also browse everything that is live by channel on the search page.
If something here is wrong
A wrong date, a missing credit, a picture that should not be public — say so and it will be changed. The archive would rather be corrected than be tidy. Write to info@julydiary.com, or use the feedback page.
