Terms and Conditions

How this archive may be used, what it does not license, and how to raise a rights or safety concern.

Last updated 28 July 2026.

These terms govern your use of July Diary. By using the site you accept them. If you do not, please do not use it. Questions go to info@julydiary.com.

What this archive is

July Diary is a documentary and historical record of the July Revolution in Bangladesh, 1 July to 5 August 2024, and the weeks that followed. It is not a news service. Material is published to preserve a record of events, and it is presented with whatever is known about its provenance, including where that is little or nothing.

Accuracy

Much of this material arrived with no caption and no verified date. Dates are established from the strongest evidence available and are labelled with how confident that evidence is. Some are inferred. Captions written by third parties are reproduced as they were received and are not claims by this archive.

The archive is offered as it is. We do not warrant that any particular record is accurate, complete or correctly dated, and we correct errors as they are established. If you rely on a record for research, journalism or legal purposes, check it.

Copyright and reuse

This archive does not own most of what it holds, and grants you no licence to republish it. A large part of the collection is agency preview imagery — watermarked comps from commercial picture agencies — and much of the rest reached the archive through forwarding channels rather than from the person who made it. Rights remain with whoever holds them.

What that means in practice:

  • Linking to any page here is welcome and needs no permission.
  • Quotation and use for reporting, criticism, teaching and research may be permitted by law. That is a question of law and the answer is yours to determine, not ours to grant.
  • Do not treat presence in this archive as a licence to republish, sell, sublicense or train on the material.
  • Do not crop, edit or re-caption material in a way that removes identifying context or changes what it depicts.

If you hold rights in something here, write to info@julydiary.com and say so.

Graphic content

This archive documents violence. It contains images of injury and death. Material identified as graphic is covered until you choose to reveal it, and that setting is remembered in your browser. Coverage depends on classification that is not perfect: you may encounter distressing material that has not been flagged. If you find something that should be covered, tell us.

People named here

The memorial names people who were killed and reproduces biographies compiled by public martyr registers. Do not use these pages to harass, threaten or target anyone, living or dead, or their families. Do not use contact details or identifying information found here for any purpose other than reading the archive.

If you contribute material

By sending photographs, video or information you confirm that, so far as you know, you are entitled to share it, and you permit this archive to store it, catalogue it and publish it as part of the record. You keep whatever rights you already had.

Contributing does not guarantee publication. Material is catalogued, checked for duplicates, dated and screened, and some is held back. Nothing contributed is deleted — see Catalog vs Raw Files for exactly what happens to every file. You may ask us to withdraw material you contributed.

Acceptable use

Do not attempt to gain access to material or accounts you are not entitled to. Do not bulk-download the archive or scrape it for redistribution or for training datasets. Do not attempt to disrupt the service. Do not present material from this archive as depicting something it does not.

Takedown and corrections

Write to info@julydiary.com with the address of the page and what is wrong. Rights complaints, privacy requests and safety concerns are all handled at the same address. Material that raises a safety concern is covered while the question is examined rather than afterwards.

Availability

The archive is provided without any warranty. It may be unavailable, incomplete, or changed without notice. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of it or from reliance on any record in it.

External links

Records link to source material on other sites. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for them.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Bangladesh, and the courts of Bangladesh have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

Changes

These terms may change. The date at the top records when they last did.
